Melbourne, Australia’s Power is perhaps the best fit name for a trio since the ‘power trio’ cliché arrived – a swelteringly beautiful, disastrous mess of rock’n’roll with no cruise control. Calling on any and all miscreants that filed their ears prior, Electric Glitter Boogie, is built to last. This is actually the reissue after its release on Australia’s Cool Death imprint all the way back in 2015! In The Red yet again reassures their stake in the annals of rock purity in all forms thereof, with the attached promise of a new record from the Power boys later this year in return for this golden gem’s release here in the states.
The sound is raw yet pure, raunchy guitars and a primitive trap snapping under super scuzzy lyrics…sounds delicious, doesn’t it? In this day and age it certainly tempts as offerings this perfect are few and sadly, far between. That is unless you keep your ears pinned to purveyors thereof like the aforementioned In The Red, the boys at Burger, and the fine folks at Polyvinyl to shout out a few. This 8 pack of Australian amp burners is fresh out of the dumpster, supershitty and savage. Like The Hellacopters meet the Quadrajets on a speed-fueled burner down under.
Caught almost entirely live with minimal overdubs, these 8 songs slam with efficiency. From the initial set-off and title track, the sheer force and well, Power, is self-evident. It takes all of four measures to fall in love and all of two songs to see the future. What we need stateside is a third, or maybe, fourth, whatever, wave of pissed of kids to make our own resurgence. Take your political disdaining, finger pointing self to the music store and buy some cheap gear, find your tone, and make it happen…“This Band Could Be Your Life”... at least read the book! Electric Glitter Boogie, out now on In The Red, run, don’t walk.
